About BETH STALEY, your newsletter/party host
Academic At Large: Beth has a Phd in English, an MFA in Poetry, and 16 years of formal university teaching. Her dissertation explores Emily Dickinson's poetry to understand listening practices in nineteenth-century America and to redefine the power of the lyric voice as an embodied echo of and with a complex world (not an exalted echo through and over it). Literary Theory and Sound Studies belong together.
Workstyle Advocate: She has workstyles on the brain, in the heart. Of course the TV series Dickinson is an origin story not just of the poet, but of her workstyle. And in countless college classrooms and workshops, Beth found that encouraging students to understand and work with (not against) their workstyles made it easier for them to discover passions and distill perspectives.
Studio Founder: Beth now writes and teaches exclusively through the When-it Studio.
Emerging Metalsmith: Words have a limit, so Beth composes in metal too. She specializes in crafting "story chains" whose sections translate mythical transformations, astrological transits, and listening experiences. Her workstyle needs tangibility...a hammer and fire.
Sound Practitioner: None of this is possible without healing. Beth draws from her Reiki certification and 25 years as a singer-songwriter to create sound baths that integrate singing bowls, bells, and energy work.
Intuitive Seeker: Tarot has run in her veins from the start – making it possible to hear, heal, and honor any story at all.
